You may be aware that the management structure of schools in the local area is under review.
In order to gauge the opinions of parents/carers and staff the council propose to hold two meetings, both in Wick High School, on 21st and 22nd March at 7pm. All are invited to attend. Below is a copy of the official invitation from Care and Learning Manager, Jacquelyn Jennett.
Dear Head Teachers, staff, parents, carers and members,
As you know I attended Wick and Thurso schools during January with colleagues based in Care and Learning to outline the Management of Schools agenda and to begin the process of engagement with yourselves, seeking your ideas and views points.
I agreed during these meetings to continue this engagement at key times and noted a return to Wick and Thurso week beginning Monday 19th March 2018. This week was set aside given the revised proposals submission and consideration by the Peoples Committee on Thursday 15th March 2018, with meetings during this week allowing us the opportunity to share the report and to talk through some of the implications and hear views from stakeholders.
I trust you have seen the most recent Management of Schools update, circulated to Head Teachers by Bill Alexander, Director of Care and Learning last week which outlines the broad recommendations that he is making to the committee. If not, Head Teachers and Parent Councils have had this made available to them for circulation.
Rather than individual meetings with each school I propose to hold to two general meetings in Wick High School on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd March at 7pm. You are welcome to attend any one these meetings.
The agenda for the evening will include a presentation on the Management of schools programme, sharing of the proposals and decisions of the Peoples Committee of 15th March, a talk around the next steps and the opportunity for questions to be asked.
It is likely, as we move forward, individual meetings with schools will be required.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the evenings noted above.
